Welcome to the Alpine Homestead Restaurant!

At the Alpine Homestead Restaurant, we offer delicious Swiss-inspired meals, including a 60-item smorgasbord, plus a host of new attractions.

During your meal, sit back and enjoy the beautiful three-dimensional murals capturing the magnificence of the Swiss highlands, or watch as a model train makes its way through the mountains.

While you're here, you can shop our cuckoo clock store (the second largest in the country!), bakery, ice cream parlor, gift shop, and cheese and bulk food store.

And don't forget to take advantage of a free visit to the World's Largest Cuckoo Clock! (Please note: Because it is outside, The World's Largest Cuckoo Clock is closed November 15 - April 15.)

Alpine Homestead History

Formerly known as "Alpine Alpa", the restaurant was built in 1935 by Alice and Hans Grossniklaus, a Swiss cheese maker and his wife. The Grossniklaus family realized the opportunity for tourism in the Holmes County area and added numerous attractions to the restaurant, including the famous World's Largest Cuckoo Clock, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records.

In 1983, local artist Tom Miller was commissioned to paint three-dimensional murals of the Swiss Alps throughout the dining room.

In August of 2002 Ann DeHass, her daughter Lee Ann, and Lee Ann's husband, Daryl purchased "Alpine Alpa" and renamed it "Alpine Homestead". Ann was born and raised on a farm in Holmes County where she spent her days by her mother’s side in the kitchen, cultivating her culinary skills. She has been in the restaurant business for nearly 25 years.

In addition to the Alpine Homestead Restaurant, Ann, Daryl, and Lee Ann own and operate the Charm Homestead Restaurant in Charm, Ohio and the Miller Haus Bed & Breakfast Inn near Walnut Creek, Ohio.

Since they purchased the restaurant, Ann, Daryl, and Lee Ann have been busy implementing changes and making improvements. In addition to a new menu, there is a lovely new staff of Amish women preparing and serving the food. And, the Alpine Homestead Restaurant now features the best live bluegrass music in the area on Saturday evenings from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Eat all you want and listen all you like! For additional information, call (330) 359-5454.

We hope you will visit the Alpine Homestead Restaurant for a great home-cooked meal and enjoy one of the areas best indoor sites!
